North Korea Political-Military Update: Tensions High and Rising

by Richardson ~ June 1st, 2009. Filed under: Korean War, Missiles, Nuclear Proliferation, Six-Party Talks.

Several factors – all driven by Pyongyang – are at work and have created an increasingly tense military situation on the peninsula. Additional long-range missile tests are expected, and naval clashes along the Northern Limit Line (NLL) are becoming more likely.

Political

Some background: In January 2009, North Korea “voided” all political-military agreements with South Korea, although this did not seem to include the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War, or economic agreements like the Kaesong Industrial Park or the Keumgangsan tours.

Missiles

Bottom line: North Korea appears to be preparing for an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch, and I expect it to do so in the coming weeks.

West Coast Military Developments

Bottom line: Ongoing KPA preparations indication North Korea is bracing for possible military confrontations on the west coast, perhaps along the Northern Limit Line (NLL). North Korea recently declared the 1953 armistice voice, but has never recognized the NLL as a legal sea border.

I bet my two centavos that NK will start a provocation in the NLL area. They have somewhat to punish ROK for entering into the treaty. But they will start it only after the launch.
Moreover, depending on how the marine clash will finish we can expect some developments in land.

This is nothing more than atemp to lure u.s. into makeing a use of force so they can move on south korea because they want it just like north vietnam. While lureing us to focus on the move at hand as they want all of our attention on there missle deterent-they will move all of there military to the south and as soon as u.s, responds to the north drawing our attention to the north they will over run the south and will take it faster than a june bug landing on a knats but. americans take head!

Something must be done. Not only has North Korea blatantly ignored many of the United Nation’s rules and regulations, their missile tests on 4th of July is a clear message to America that they have hostile intentions. Alongside the fact that they are sentencing two innocent journalists to several years hard labor, and their recent threat to fire a missile towards Hawaii, we are left with no choice but to take action against this unstable and dangerous country. If North Korea wishes to go to war with America, they only need to continue down the path they are headed.

Sorry for the wrong prediction! There will be no war coming.
After seeing KJI last pictures it seems to me that the old guy is seriously ill and he will be missing the next Happy New Year, it is a matter of months not years. ROK should be ready for the change, so resuming I am pretty damn sure that the little commie will die sooner than everybody is expecting. The King is (almost) dead! Long live the (next) King!
