Women’s Soccer: U.S. Imperialists vs. NK Commies

by Richardson ~ August 30th, 2007. Filed under: America, North Korea.

DPRK Ladies Soccer! This should be good – the North Koreas face the American team on, oddly enough, 11 September at the Chengdu Sports Center:

North Korea may not allow its less-than-average national men’s soccer team to participate in every international tournament, but the secretive Stalinist state has no such qualms about its high-performing women.

[. . .]

The North Koreans have been drawn in Group B, which contains exactly the same four nations that it did in 2003 - Sweden, Nigeria and the United States.

[. . .]

Not only are they political rivals, the pair also have history on the pitch. The United States has defeated North Korea in the last two World Cups with the scoreline 3-0 on both occasions, the only meetings between the two. The North Koreans are keen for revenge.

That is pretty odd, and kind of creepy too. On Sept. 11th out of all days. That should have some serious propaganda value.

Hey, if the team loses, do they get sent to the gulags like in Saddam’s regime when Uday tortured and killed those that did not win?

I think the date just happened to be when/where group B fell, but who knows.

I imagine if a team really screwed up they or their families would have… issues.
