Upgrade to WordPress 2.1 Not Perfect
by Richardson ~ January 23rd, 2007. Filed under: Administration. Last update: The latest version of my preferred theme – TripleK2 – does not appear to play will with WP 2.1, so I’ll be waiting for the next iteration of one or the other for conflicts to go away. I’ve also done some testing between LunarPages and Bluehost and have found that LunarPages is not allowing the sending/receiving trackback/pingbacks with WP, but Bluehost does. So a change of hosts is in the cards, but not right away starting today, but it could take a few days to complete. Posting will resume as usual until I get around to while changing hosts if possible.
Update 3: Figured out the asides issue… the Adhesive (sticky) plugin doesn’t play well with asides. An easy fix.
Update 2: Tomorrow (Friday) evening I plan on doing a fresh install of WP 2.0 2.1 and this theme… it will probably take all weekend to sort things out as I’ve got other things going on. So North Korea will probably conduct another nuke test this weekend, or Kim Jong-il will die, etc., and I’ll be tweaking .php files.
Update 1: Blogroll/menus fixed; it wasn’t get_links, it was the fact that post and link categories are merged in 2.1. In the process all link categories were renumbered, so get_links was calling post categories and displaying nothing. Asides are still an issue…
Original post: Past upgrades have been relatively easy, but the upgrade to 2.1 has, so far, broken my blogroll (get_links not working correctly, yet), and K2 sidebar asides are not working correctly (all posts go in the sidebar and the main column). I’ll work on this a bit tonight (late evening on the U.S. east coast), but won’t be able to from work, so it may look like this for a couple of days. Robert had issues as well.

Why even do the upgrade, then? Sounds like a big pain to me.

Technophile compulsion. . . as well as an ongoing issue with sending/receiving trackbacks that I hoped would be solved with the latest and greatest version. I’ve got some more testing to do to determine if it’s host or software dependent, but not so much time these days.

The very first word of your response makes my mind up for me. I’ll stick with my trusty Buick, thanks.

How’d you fix the Adhersive plugin to go with WP 2.1. - my issue is that the plugin page is not accessible after activating the plugin. Displays fine under the poste options, though but no help when the plugin page is rendered useless…
See this post if anybody has an idea - the issue has been narrowed down but not solved: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/102459?replies=11#post-522228
Any help would be greatly appreciated… hope you don’t mind me asking!

I didn’t fix it and haven’t been able to use it since the upgrade.
With WP 2.1, K2-based themes, and Adhesive don’t play well together. Although I was able to see the options page, all posts ended up both in the center column, AND in the right column under asides, no matter what category was used.
…just tried the WP-Sticky plug-in you linked to, and while it doesn’t have the same issue, it did mess up the format of asides.
At this point I don’t have fix or alternate plug-in, and am left with the option to use a future date for posts that I want to stay at the top longer. Sorry I can’t be of more help at present.

Well, thanks for the effort anyway… let’s hope for some kick-ass updates to these plugs soon… cheers!

If I find any fix/replacement for Adhesive, I’ll post it here and email you directly.

Thanks R. Howeber, looks like I finally got onto something by googling furiously; the plugin has been modified by Lester Chan (a very capable plugin programmer ime) and it can be downloaded from one of the posts here: http://www.lesterchan.net/wordpress/
Haven’t testet it out yet, but I get back to you once I’m done.

Feedback as promised: installed with no issues at all and works excellently. This is a working version af adhesiveand it works just like Adhesive is supposed to in WP 2.1 - from Chan’s website:
“You can configure the options in ‘WP-Admin -> Options -> Sticky’.
You can find the ‘Sticky’ Option under ‘Post Status’ Options in the ‘Write/Edit Post Screen’.”
Exactly like that! Great stuff…

That’s the same one I tried yesterday with no luck. I believe this is an issue with K2 rather than WP 2.1, however.
Thank you again for the link. I’ll be sure to check back for updates to see if they work with my particular theme.
