We can beat anyone in the world as long as they fight with the gloves on like we do. Next story.

I think we could be anyone, even if they try with gloves off… but I’m probably biased.

on paper it looks overwhelming. and most likely it is. With powers such as russia and china, it’ll invariably escalate into mutual destruction. the planet earth will nose dive head first into a nuclear winter for god knows how many years.
live and let live.

Unfortunately, however, simply being able to beat another nation is not deterrent enough.
It is what was sometimes called the French nuclear war strategy. There was no doubt that the Soviet Union could annihilate France in a nuclear war, in another word “win,” but the French nuclear capability was such that the latter would have been able to “tear off Russia’s arm” in the process. The calculation presented to the opponent was, “Is losing your arm worth killing me?”
In this day and age, it is no longer sufficient for the US to be able to beat an opponent. Simply put, we have to be able to beat an opponent easily. Otherwise, our enemies know that our resolve for long, difficult wars is often shaky, and that our electorate loathes to get into wars that we can surely win in the end, but at some costs to ourselves.
This “French nuclear war strategy” calculus allows our enemies to push us despite their comparative weakness… up to a point.
