Prove “Mi-Hwa” Wrong — Help Confirm John Bolton

by James Na ~ July 25th, 2006. Filed under: Diplomacy, UN, Washington Views.

The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, will face a hearing this week to be re-nominated for the position. President Bush, previously unable to obtain a nomination for him, made a recess appointment that has allowed Bolton to serve until now.

Readers of Joshua’s old blog “One Free Korea” might recall that Joshua and other representatives of North Korea Freedom coalition met Ambassador Bolton.

The hearing will take place on Thursday, July 27th at 9:30 AM in Room 216 of Hart Senate Office Building (please check here for the latest schedule and place change, if any).

Please show up to demonstrate your support for Ambassador Bolton if you can. And why should you support him? I suppose I could give a detailed list of his qualifications, accomplishments and so on. Instead, I reproduce what commenter “Mi-Hwa” wrote on Joshua’s old blog:

Many people in the UN were aghast that Bush appointed him…

Also, North Koreans absolutely hate Bolton. When Bolton was a negotiator in the 6 nations talk, North Korea insisted that he be eliminated from the team, which is what happened. South Koreans and Chinese also complained strongly about the way Bolton dealt with people.

Sounds like the perfect man for the job, doesn’t he?

“Mi-Hwa” further went on to predict:

Bolton’s term will be over in one year. I seriously doubt that the Senate will let him continue on. He won’t be able to accomplish much in just one year.

Let’s prove her wrong and help Bolton pass his re-nomination.

Please call the following senators and let them know that you want them to vote yes on the re-nomination:

I enjoy watching John Bolton drive a lot of the members of UN a little nuts. He speaks the truth in very plain language, something the UN hasn’t heard in years. May be best of all, he realizes that the UN is, to a large degree useless and its’ business practices are suspect, at best. He realizes that the UN is the only game in town right now and will remain that way until something better comes along like the “Community of Democracies” to replace it.

If North Korea hates something, it has merit almost by definition. North Korea likes cash payments with no questions asked and sycophantic treatment, and it got years of both from South Korea - and still screwed Seoul.

UN is a JOKE and that’s why US has not paid our share to run it in the tunes of over $200 million. Why fund bunch of CORRUPT incompetent leftist liberal morons?

That’s why we need strong willed, tell it like it is and blunt US repreresentative like Bolton to do ruffle some feathers and frankly kick some ass.

To see DPRK and ROK’s puppet foreign minister Ban and PIG Uri supporting liberal commie sympathizing anti-american Mihwa squirm and vehemently oppose Bolton is more of the reason we need Bolton representing USA interest.

  4. Duke

I was watching Korean news (MBC) yesterday and took joy in uniFICTION ahole Lee get whipped on special hearing called by GNP and even PIG Uri lawmakers chastising him for his asnine remark over the weekend blaming US. It was amusing in that couple of dudes from PIG Uri were attacking him with 1 guy asking if ahole Lee even knew anything about foreign relations.

And you guessed it. Worthless pupper NP to rescue per Chosun:

Roh Defends Minister’s Right to Slam U.S.

President Roh Moo-hyun on Tuesday defended Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok against criticism over Lee’s attack on Washington’s North Korea policies over the weekend. “Can’t a Korean minister say, ‘I don’t think that a U.S. policy succeeded in that regard?’” Roh started off a salvo of rhetorical questions right after the meeting started and with the press still in the room. Lee had said on a TV program the U.S. “suffered the biggest failure” when North Korea test-fired missiles in defiance of international warnings on July 5.

Lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties in the National Assembly on Monday chastised Lee for his “inappropriate” remarks.
“Are any ministers here who say the U.S. made a mistake going to be reprimanded at the National Assembly?” Roh continued. “Are you saying we should suffocate Pyongyang? Do you think that the U.S. is a country without fault? Do you believe that we should always keep quiet when the U.S. makes a mistake?” The president urged ministers to voice their conviction when answering lawmakers at the National Assembly, saying, “Ministers are supposed to speak straight from their own convictions.” The remarks come amid a widening gulf between Korea and its long-term ally over additional sanctions Washington wants to impose on the North. Roh has rarely made a secret of his critical attitude to the U.S., saying during his election campaign in 2002, “I don’t go to the U.S. just to take a picture with the president there” and asking in yet another rhetorical question, “What’s wrong with anti-Americanism?”

Hey can anyone get rid (any way if you can including a bullet or bombs) NO, please?

  5. Mi-Hwa

James, I was surprised to see my comments featured so prominently in your post. Anyway, I am still opposed to Bolton.

Bolton may not get confirmed by the Senate if many Democrat senators decide to filibuster. One reason why some Democrats don’t like Bolton is because of his close association with the Cheney-Rumsfeld cabal that created the Iraq fiasco.

To Duke: Your description of me is ridiculous and juvenile. I’m tired of your personal attacks.

  6. James J. Na

Well, chalk it up to saying exactly the wrong things. You unintentionally captured exactly why Bolton should be re-nominated.

  7. Duke

    Yo Miwha!

What’s wrong with calling bottom of kettle black? I guess for you is like calling blood red. Just telling it like it is girl (I think or are you ?).

“PIG Uri supporting liberal commie sympathizing anti-american Mihwa squirm and vehemently oppose Bolton is more of the reason we need Bolton representing USA interest. ”

Let’s see you’re PIG Uri supporter, liberal, commie sympathizer with deep adoration for MURDERER midget Kim based on your self incriminating writing, and to top it off squirm and vehemently oppose Bolton.

Say why are you being such chickensxit on my question to you - for the 4th time - are you christian? why mention Saddleback pastor to puppet crusade in PY out of blue? Why do you live in US, a country you dispise so much? Why not live in PY with your sugar daddy who you admire, the world’s worst MURDERER of millions of people?

  8. Duke

    Miwha,

Why is that almost all Koreans and more so with liberal, leftist, anti-american, PIG Uri supporting hypocrites want to live in USA? Country they dispise so much with disdain?

These hypocrites include disgraced ex-head of PIG Uri and ex-uniFICTION minister Jung TONG Young. This SOB sent both of his kids to study in US and his older kid attends Stanford (UGH). Why not PY university?

Another is COMMUNIST professor Kang who created quite a stir with open adoration for MUDERER midget Kim, stated DPRK did not start Korean War and very anti-american. This another hypocrite fxcker’s older son went to school in US and working in US for lawfirm. And get this! This ahole’s 2nd son was KATUSA not to mention getting college degree in US!

Now why do these leaders of anti-american hypocrites all send their precious kids to US to live, study and work?

PS - Uh Mihwa lives in US - not US citizen mind you. Add 1 more name to…

  9. Won Joon Choe

Duke, your rhetoric is often overblown and even histrionic (but who am I to point fingers), but agreeable in substance. In fact, aren’t Roh Moo-hyun’s kids (along with Chung “Ddong”-young’s kids and Prof. Kang’s kids that you mention) also studying in the U.S.?

  10. James J. Na

    Won Joon:

Welcome back. You are often a voice of reason. You took the words right out of my mouth.

  11. Won Joon Choe

    James,

Thanks for the praise, but I think you are being over-generous. While I think my positions themselves are usually moderate and reasonable, the way I articulate those positions are anything but. Somehow, when I sit down to write or stand up to talk, it all comes out wrong. One of my closest professors from college, a history professor, once told me that while I think like a serious scholar, I write like a tabloid journalist. :(
I often blame it on my lack of command of the English language and my immigrant status. But who am I kidding? I sound just as immoderate and histrionic when I write Korean. It must be my writing style or my style simply :)

  12. Duke

    Won Joon,

Dude, you write well but use of words like “histrionic” makes me wonder if you’re using outdated Korean-English dictionary as I’ve never heard such word used before.

Liberal lefitist commie sympathizer sunshine and MURDERER midget Kim supporter and not to mention bringing down christianity in context with puppet “crusade” in PY by clueless white preacher at mega church in Orange County who failed to consult with Korean pastors brings out the complete ANGER in me, and I’m not gonna be bashful about bashing just described hypocrite like miwoe Miwha.

  13. Won Joon Choe

No, Duke; I am not using a Korean-English dictionary any more. In fact, I never used them, as I think the two languages are so fundamentally different that trying to find cross-linguistic equivalent is often counter-productive.

  14. Brendon Carr

Mi-Hwa, what is your profession? I know a man named Mi-Hwa.

  15. James J. Na

Won Joon, a man should learn to take his praises gracefully… Otherwise it becomes “Thou doth protest too much.”

  16. ross

Please listen, there are plenty of good reasons NOT to nominate John B.

Some golden oldies on Bolton include his close, and ultimately illegal relationship providing uncompensated legal counsel to Senator Jesse Helms, his presidency of the National Policy Forum — a 501(c)3 non-profit institution founded by Haley Barbour that lost its non-profit status because of illegal partisanship in its programming objectives, his non-transparent relationship with Taiwan funding sources while providing testimony to Congress on Taiwan issues, his role in helping to promulgate the Niger Uranium story inside the State Department after it had been internally set aside by INR analysts, his efforts to beat and massage intelligence to fit preconceived political objectives in the build-up of the war against Iraq, his insubordination under Colin Powell and Richard Armitage and sabotage of America’s North Korea diplomacy in 2001, and the list goes on and on.

    Familiarize yourself with the record.

But on Bolton’s UN performance — ONE SIMPLE QUESTION NEEDS TO BE ASKED.

Why are we to believe that John Bolton, who has now had a lot of time on the clock, is any good at all at getting what America wants done at the UN? He has had no successes.

He has failed to get America what it wanted on a new Human Rights Council. He failed to be a full and successful strategist and negotiator on other UN reform issues. He has failed to secure the support needed for more effective resolutions dealing with Iran and North Korea. He’s known for being more of a tempest than a stabilizer. To many, he is seen as a brilliant architect of American failure at the UN. And remember, essentially, John Bolton seems for the most part to want to set up failure.

He has been extraordinarly successful at making himself look like a gladiator taking on the stifling and incompetent bureaucrats at the UN — but I am aware of very few times when John Bolton invested his time and “political capital” in achieving a real success for America at the UN.

  17. James J. Na

Ah, the myth of “the lie about Niger.”

    Read Christopher Hitchens’s masterful summary.

As for Bolton “not getting things done,” read this.

  18. snow

The UN could use a whole raft of John Bolton-types to at least attempt to regain some kind of credibility for the UN.
