NEW FOOD RATIONING SYSTEM; LESS THAN BEFORE

Apparently the system is supposed to start up again in October, and with new ‘levels,’ the most generous being 500g of rice per day. Before the food crisis and mass starvations began in the mid-1990s the top ration was 900g for heavy industry workers. This combined with the end of UN food aid probably spells starvation for many North Koreans this winter.
